Children's Hospital!

Good Afternoon CFI Families,

This week’s recap includes pictures and details from our trip to the Children’s Hospital and the beginning of our inquiry into plants.

As you know on Tuesday we went to the Children’s Hospital where we learned about the way the hospital works and heard from some of the different departments. The kids got to hear from a puppet about good dental hygiene, sit in an ambulance, and learn from the surgery, x-ray, therapy, pharmacy, and emergency medicine departments. As you can imagine there was a lot to learn! They asked great questions and were excited to see all the items brought by staff to demonstrate some of the things each department does (Examples include x-rays, an IV machine, and an occupational therapist’s device to teach children how to open locks). They were especially interested to know that the hospital has its own play room! Here are some pictures of the field trip and the kids wearing their goodies.

This week we began our unit into plants. We brainstormed things we already knew and posed questions to guide our inquiry as we do with each new unit. We have since started reading fiction and nonfiction books surrounding this topic. We are also jumping in as scientists by growing our own lima bean plants in the window and will keep you posted on their growth. We will be measuring them, documenting them and sketching them to see the life cycle and testing out different variables along the way. Here is what they look like right now!
