Good Afternoon CFI Families!
Here is the recap of our week. This week we ended by celebrating the creativity and amazing work of each child’s expert project. Three were able to share today but yesterday each project was set up so we could browse them as a class and share with parents at curriculum night. As you can see they did amazing work and are truly experts of their topic. I am amazed at the confidence with which they shared their projects at curriculum night and am excited to share each one individually over the course of the next week. When your child presents, which will be scattered across the week, I will send you a video link of their presentation and pictures. We are also sharing with our peers in a school share fair on Friday. The invention topics range from a violin, to high heels, to the refrigerator, so we are excited to share.

We also finished our class expert projects on clocks this week as seen below. We used resources such as websites, videos on how it works, and our own investigation into sundials and time to fuel our search. Together it helped us understand the parts of the project and furthered our study of time in math, and light and shadows in science.

This week we also continued our light and shadow study with different materials looking at transparency, translucency, and opacity. We experimented with multiple light sources, and predicted whether shadows change with distance from a light source and position from a light source. We found that the shadow gets bigger the closer to the light source, and changes angles as the light moves around it like with the moon’s lunar phases.
In math we continued practicing telling time and positioning the clock hands for different times.
In reading we have been reading about clocks for our expert projects and inventions. We used many nonfiction texts to support our own investigations into light and shadows as well.
We also were able to attend the kindergarten share fair of their first expert projects from both kindergarten classes. Mrs. Barnes shared passion projects, and Mrs. Palmatier shared life story projects. We were able to browse them and learn from them as experts. I was so proud to see the kids interested in each project, and encouraging them as supportive audience members. Here we are listening and learning from them.

We also went to the new Sandhills Library for the first time today. The kids enjoyed riding the bus, listening to the acoustics in the new storytime room, going behind the scenes to the car pickup booth, and checking out books. Here are some pictures of our inaugural trip!

That’s it for this week but lookout for all the expert project pictures next week. Here are some upcoming dates!
March 28th - Richland Children’s Hospital Field Trip
April 7th- Half Day
April 10th-April 14th- Spring Break
