Good Afternoon CFI Families!

This week flew by as we prepared for our second First Grade gathering. I hope you were able to come and enjoy hearing about what we have been learning. Thank you to so many for attending and for helping with moon logs each night. If you were unable to come this time, ask your child to tell you what they shared at gathering at home. They are very excited about our current study of the night sky. We have been sharing our moon logs each morning and discussing the changes they view. This next week we will focus more on what we observe. Please continue the log this weekend (especially tonight! There is a great astronomical event to observe) and we will add more pages next week to continue the log. We are hoping for 100% participation to enrich our discussion. Already, we are talking about how to figure out what the moon looks like when there are too many clouds in the sky, and how what we see depends on what time it was observed by each child. This coming week we will begin to look at time and how to read an analog and digital clock. We will also begin charting the time of the moonrise and set each night to look at patterns and data.

You will receive a permission form on Monday for a field trip we are planning with Mrs. Klosterman’s class on February 28th. This trip will be to the planetarium at the State Museum where we will view the planetarium, observatory, and attend a hands on class about the night sky. It should be a great trip and I will reach out about chaperoning this week.

We have student led conferences beginning this coming Thursday after school. Please look for my email confirming the time I have you scheduled for. Here in the classroom we are busy preparing our booklets and are excited to put each child’s learning on display. Each conference is 15 minutes and is truly led by the child. I look forward to celebrating their growth with you.

This coming week is Valentine’s day or Friendship day here at CFI. If you and your child could bring notes, either handmade or store bought, please bring them for everyone in the class. We want this day to be about sharing our community and our love of each other. I will have a bag for each child that they will decorate. It makes it easier if you put the notes in alphabetical order so the kids can pass them out in the bags quickly. At the end of the day these will go home to be opened with family. Here is our class roster with spellings and in alphabetical order for your reference.
